Representative Jim Himes represents the 4th district of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Mr. Himes was born in Lima, Peru, to American parents. After his family moved back to the US when he was 10, he graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School before attending Harvard University. He also earned a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.
Prior to his service in Congress, Mr. Himes ran the New York City branch of Enterprise Community Partners, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing housing supply, advancing racial equity, and building resilience and upward mobility. He also chaired the Greenwich Housing Authority and served on the town’s finance board.
In the 118th Congress, Representative Himes serves as Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as the House Financial Services Committee.
Connecticut’s district includes the coast of the Long Island Sound which informs Congressman Himes’ leadership to protect vulnerable coastal infrastructure. He was a strong supporter of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which provides billions for programs to harden at-risk transportation and other critical infrastructure in coastal states.
Congressman Himes has also been a robust supporter of nature-based solutions to reduce flood risk. He championed billions in funding for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide grants to states, localities, and nonprofit partners to execute innovative coastal resilience projects, including permeable concrete “reef balls” that safeguard Connecticut’s Stratford Point.
Mr. Himes lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife, Mary. They have two daughters, Emma and Linley.
