American Flood Coalition Recognizes Representative Michael Burgess as a Federal Champion
As North Texas communities face stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Rep. Michael Burgess commits to driving solutions to build resilience.
WASHINGTON, DC — March 16, 2023 — The American Flood Coalition today recognized Representative Michael Burgess, M.D., (R-TX) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding proactive solutions to challenges posed by flooding.
“Downpours and floods are not new to North Texas, as seen clearly with the 2015 flooding of Ray Roberts, Grapevine, and Lewisville Lakes,” said Congressman Burgess. “I look forward to working with the American Flood Coalition, as well as my colleagues in Congress, on long-term solutions that accelerate recoveries, boost local economies, and prepare us for the long run.”
Dr. Burgess joins 28 bipartisan, bicameral AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms, more frequent flooding, and rising seas. He is the third AFC Federal Champion representing Texas, joining Reps. Dan Crenshaw and Lizzie Fletcher as part of the growing contingent in the Lone Star state.
“Congressman Burgess has been diligently focused on protecting communities across North Texas from flooding,” said Melissa Roberts, AFC’s Executive Director. “His leadership and guidance in emergency preparedness will help strengthen our growing coalition in Texas.”
Rep. Burgess has a long history of securing funding for communities to both recover from and prepare for flooding and other natural hazards. His commitment to swift federal action has sped up recoveries and positioned communities on the front lines of flooding in North Texas to build long-term resilience.
