Sen. Mark Warner

Senator, Virginia

I am honored to be recognized by the American Flood Coalition as one of the first bipartisan Senate Federal Champions. Investing in flood resilience is a critical component of safeguarding Virginia’s coastal communities and I have been proud to lead efforts to bring hundreds of millions of dollars of federal funding to the Commonwealth to support flood mitigation. These investments continue to help protect communities from costly damage, including military installations in Hampton Roads and other critical infrastructure.

Senator Mark Warner represents the Commonwealth of Virginia in the U.S. Senate.

The first in his family to graduate from college, Warner received a B.A. from George Washington University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He then spent two decades as a successful business and technology leader, co-founding a cellular telephone company that became Nextel.

Mr. Warner served as the Governor of Virginia from 2002-2006 before his first election to the U.S. Senate in 2008.

In the 117th Congress, Senator Warner serves as Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and as a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs Committee, chairing its National Security and International Trade and Finance Subcommittee. Warner also sits on the Senate Committee on Finance, including its Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure Subcommittee.

As a lead negotiator on the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, Senator Warner championed billions of dollars in federal investment for flood resilience. He has actively engaged in federal water resources packages, including the 2018 America’s Water Infrastructure Act, which authorized flood resilience projects in Tangier Island and the broader Coastal Virginia region. He is also a proponent for Virginia’s Hampton Roads region, with an emphasis on protecting its military installations from the threats of flooding and sea level rise.

Mr. Warner Lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Lisa. They have three daughters.
