Hon. Michael Lee served as a North Carolina State Senator from 2014-2018 and was recently re-elected to a third term in 2020. Senator Lee serves as the co-chair of the NC Senate Education and Policy and Appropriations Committee as well as serving on the NC Senate Judiciary and Healthcare Committees.
Prior to his service in the NC Senate, Senator Lee served on the NCDOT Board of Transportation and Chaired the NC Port Authority. He is the father of four children, two dogs and has been a resident of the Cape Fear Region for over 20 years. Senator Lee is a graduate of UNC-CH and obtained his law degree with honors from Wake Forest University. Senator Lee practices law at Lee Kaess, PLLC and serves on the Board of Directors for The Hunt Institute. Senator Lee has received numerous superlatives through the years such as being included in The Best Lawyers of America directory, Business North Carolina Magazine’s Legal Elite, and Law & Politics Magazine Super Lawyer designation.
