Waller County

Texas

Waller County is located in southeast Texas in the Houston Metropolitan area and is adjacent to the west side of Harris County. It’s largest city and county seat is Hempstead. The county was established in 1873 and named for Edwin Waller the first mayor of Austin.

Waller combines the accessibility to business resources of a big city with the quality of life found in many rural environments. It’s economy is largely fueled by Agribusiness, education and equine-related businesses. As a part of the Houston region, Waller County Economic Development Partnership works closely with groups like the Greater Houston Partnership to help create opportunities for communities throughout the area.

Recently, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $9.3 million in flood mitigation projects to improve drainage infrastructure in Waller County’s city of Hempstead. The projects will directly benefit residents in a majority low-to-moderate income area who have faced repetitive storm damage in 2015, 2016, and in 2017 with Hurricane Harvey.
