Phil Newland

Marketing & Communications Director

Phil is the Marketing & Communications Director at the American Flood Coalition, where he oversees communications strategy and shapes the narrative around how sea level rise and flooding is understood by the media, policymakers, and the general public. 

Phil has nearly a decade of experience directing communications campaigns, including public relations, public affairs and advocacy, marketing, and reputation management. Most recently, he founded and led his own communications firm. Prior to this, he worked with Qorvis MSL, where he led environmental communications efforts for the Republic of Fiji and COP23, the global climate change conference. Before Qorvis MSL, Phil led strategic planning and advocacy campaigns for clients across the alternative energy, health care, and transportation industries for Crosscut Strategies. 

Phil holds bachelor’s degrees in history and Spanish from Indiana University.
