Oswego

Oswego County, New York

The City of Oswego, New York is located 75 miles away from Rochester. Known as the Port City of Central New York, its beautiful waterfront is complemented by the maritime theme found throughout the city. Oswego’s many parks afford panoramic views of Lake Ontario and offer beautifully preserved historical sites such as its famous landmark, Fort Ontario Park. The city offers a wide array of tourist attractions such as its unique shops and restaurants, the Oswego River, Lake Ontario and its many boating festivals.

With a population of just over 17,000 permanent residents, the City of Oswego is also a popular summer vacation destination– with live concerts, fishing & boating events, harbor fests, etc. The city has three different Marinas: the Oswego International Marina, Wright Landing’s Marina on the West side of the city, and the Oswego Marina on the East side, all of which offer different sights and attractions.

The city’s geographic location not only makes Oswego an amazing tourist destination for people across the globe but also susceptible to flooding and sea level rise. The city is commencing a transformation to build upon its strengths to embrace its rich history and natural assets while promoting the development and restoration of healthy, vibrant neighborhoods surrounding Oswego’s downtown. One of the current developments is “Transforming the Waterfront” at Wright Landing’s Marina, a deep water marina that has been impacted by flooding in the Port City. This project would entail assessing flood damage to docks and making adequate repairs, redesigning and expanding the docks and slips, raising areas of the marina susceptible to flooding, creating a new pedestrian boardwalk, and providing landscape improvements. Oswego has made resiliency a high priority by also participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
