John Szoka

Former State Representative, North Carolina-45th District

John Szoka, a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army and four-term member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, served District 45, Cumberland County. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and subsequently obtained a graduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. His district is comprised of Fort Bragg and much of Cumberland County surrounding Fayetteville. 

Originally from Ohio, John chose to stay in the Fayetteville area following retirement from active duty and has lived in the area for 26 years.  He has owned and operated several successful small businesses throughout his private sector career. 

He served as Conference Chair for the Republican House Caucus and has extensively engaged in legislation concerning tax reform, economic development, energy, environment and natural resource policy. His standing committee assignments include Finance (Senior Chairman), Energy and Public Utilities (Chair), Elections and Ethics, Health, Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House and Redistricting. Additionally, John serves on the House Select Committees on COVID-19 and Community Relations, Law Enforcement and Justice (Chair). 

Rep. Szoka and his wife Laurie raised two children together and have been married for over 30 years.  Active in the church and community, John is committed to leaving North Carolina a better place for the next generation.
