Ed Goodwin

State Representative, North Carolina-1st District

Ed Goodwin represents the coastal communities comprising House District 1, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington Counties.  A native of Edenton, he grew up on his family’s farm.  After high school, Ed attended East Carolina University but was drafted prior to completing his studies.  He subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1972. After four years of service, he was honorably discharged, received the United States Air Force Airman’s Medal for Heroism and soon after completed his B.A. in Criminal Justice. 

In 1983, Goodwin became a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. He was an INF Nuclear Arms Treaty Inspector in the former Soviet Union from 1989-1992. He retired in 2004 after 23 years of service to move home to North Carolina with his wife Lori.  

Rep. Goodwin served as a Chowan County Commissioner from 2008-2012 and ran as the Republican nominee for North Carolina Secretary of State in 2012. He successfully ran for House District 1 seat in 2018.  

He currently serves on the following House committees: Appropriations, Appropriations- Capital, Appropriations -Agriculture, Natural and Economic Resources, Environment, Insurance, Transportation and the House Select Committee on Disaster Relief.
