Deb Denys is the former County Chair for Volusia County. When Deb Denys visited Volusia County with her husband George over 30 years ago, she instantly fell in love. Deb and George Denys moved to New Smyrna Beach and built a life in the community and started a business together. Deb holds a BS in Business Management & Administration along with multiple business, professional and social service certifications and designations.
Because of Deb’s commitment to her community, she was elected and served on the Volusia County School Board from 1994 – 1998. Serving as a Classroom Business Consultant for Junior Achievement teaching twelve 8th grade classes, she was appointed to JA’s Board of Directors. Through her abilities of collaboration, Deb facilitated multiple grants for Junior Achievement and the Babe James Youth Center Mural.
As a Registered Member of National Association of Security Dealers – NASD – and a Licensed Insurance Account Representative with MetLife, Deb managed Life and Investment Portfolios and serviced existing policyholders. During this professional time, Deb studied, and earned the coveted Fellow designation of the Life Underwriting Training Council – LUTCF.
Deb’s leadership commitment and ability was called upon when Governor Jeb Bush stated: “Based upon your qualifications and interest in serving the people of Florida, I am pleased to appoint you as a member of the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties.” ELCFV – Deb served as the first Chair of the ELCFV and served as Chair for five years. Because of Deb’s ability to collaborate and her recognized business background, she was appointed Chair of the State Systems Development Committee for the entire state ELC’s.
Continuing Deb’s commitment to advocacy and working to ensure the most vulnerable child has a voice, she became a Guardian Ad Litem for the 7th Judicial Circuit. Representing Volusia’s children, Deb knows too well that our most vulnerable children need an advocate, a voice. She was recognized “For her outstanding advocacy on behalf of Florida’s abused and neglected children. You are the voice for children.”
