Chris Hurst is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, and represented the 12th District. Previously a journalist, he left the field after recovering from a profound tragedy in 2015 and became focused on finding solutions to major issues.
As a journalist, Hurst was always a fierce advocate for families struggling for access to mental health care and equality in education for students with special needs. During his career, he investigated reasons why the workforce must adapt for the careers of the future and documented the dramatic rise of child abuse and opioid addiction. He held government leaders accountable and showed how first responders are left without vital resources.
Hurst has dedicated his life to public service and giving a voice to the people of southwest Virginia. When he came to the area almost a decade ago as a reporter, he quickly identified with shared values of strong families, a strong faith, and personal integrity, and fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains and the people living in small towns with big hearts.
Hurst holds a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Emerson College.
