Menifee County

Nestled within the Daniel Boone National Forest, Menifee County is anchored by its county seat of Frenchburg and sits between two of eastern Kentucky’s signature landscapes: Cave Run Lake and the Red River Gorge. The county blends small-town character with abundant outdoor recreation and natural assets that draw residents and visitors alike. Like much of eastern Kentucky, Menifee faces recurring flood hazards from intense rainfall and steep, forested terrain.

From 2021 flash-flood mudslides and water rescues in Frenchburg to Helene’s 2024 winds and power outages and the federally declared 2025 floods, Menifee County is no stranger to severe weather impacts, specifically flooding, underscoring the need for proactive, locally led resilience. Menifee County joins the American Flood Coalition to advance practical, locally driven strategies that reduce flood risk and protect people, infrastructure, and natural assets across eastern Kentucky.
