Hollywood is a city on Florida’s east coast, in Broward County, between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. With a population of around 150,000, it is the twelfth-largest city in Florida. Hollywood encompasses 27 square miles along the Atlantic Ocean and is home to the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, Downtown Hollywood arts district, and dozens of restaurants and cafes.
The city is already impacted by the threat of sea level rise, due to its location, and projections for the future put it even more at risk. Many areas in Hollywood are prone to flooding from heavy rain, which is worsened during high tide.
Hollywood is committed to increasing the sustainability and resiliency of the community and has developed a Sustainability Action Plan. Being part of Broward County the city is also part of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, which outlines an ongoing collaborative effort among the Compact Counties to foster sustainability and climate resilience at a regional scale.
