Dana Outlaw is the former Mayor of New Bern, North Carolina, where he served two terms from 2013 to 2022 after eight years as the city’s Ward 6 Alderman. A lifelong resident of Eastern North Carolina and a longtime small business owner, Outlaw focused his public service on strengthening infrastructure, guiding downtown development, and preparing his community for stronger storms and rising flood risks. During his tenure, he helped lead New Bern through major flooding events, including Hurricane Florence, and championed policies to improve storm readiness and long-term resilience. His deep experience in local government and commitment to protecting coastal communities continue to shape his leadership as he joins the American Flood Coalition.
