Representative William Timmons represents South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Mr. Timmons was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. He earned a degree in international affairs and political science from George Washington University, where he was a Division One athlete receiving a partial scholarship for four years. He then returned to South Carolina to earn a J.D. and master’s degree in international studies at the University of South Carolina College of Law.
He began his career as a prosecutor in South Carolina’s 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, serving victims of domestic violence and abuse. In this role, he saw inefficiencies in the criminal justice system that were wasting valuable tax dollars and impeding justice. He then helped create one central court for all domestic violence cases in Greenville County.
In 2012, Mr. Timmons purchased land in Greenville in what is now Unity Park. He redeveloped the land and opened several businesses, including a CrossFit gym and a yoga studio.
Mr. Timmons first ran for public office in 2016 when he campaigned for the South Carolina State Senate, winning his primary challenge against a 22-year incumbent and the general election. In 2018, Timmons ran for Congress and won and has since been reelected twice. He proudly serves in the South Carolina Air National Guard as captain and is a judge advocate general (JAG) officer.
South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District is in the Upstate and borders North Carolina. It includes parts of Greenville and Spartanburg counties, including the two cities of those respective names.
The Upstate is no stranger to flooding. Rep. Timmons experienced this firsthand when a severe storm struck Greenville, causing the Reedy River to overflow and nearly flood his small businesses along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Rep. Timmons remains committed to advancing common-sense solutions to prevent flooding from being so destructive.
Mr. Timmons resides in Greenville, South Carolina, and attends Christ Church in Downtown Greenville.
