Congressman Joe Neguse represents Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected to Congress in 2018, Rep. Neguse is the first Black member of Congress to represent Colorado. He is also a senior member of the Democratic leadership team, currently serving as House Assistant Minority Leader.
Rep. Neguse earned his B.S. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Colorado-Boulder and his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School.
Prior to his election to Congress, he served as Executive Director of Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Agencies. Rep. Neguse was also elected to represent Colorado’s 2nd District on the University of Colorado Board of Regents, and worked as an attorney.
Rep. Neguse has served on the House Natural Resources, Judiciary, and Rules Committees, including as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources’ Subcommittee on Federal Lands.
Rep. Neguse has championed more effective federal resilience policy and disaster recovery reform, including as Co-Chair and founder of the Congressional Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Caucus. He has also introduced legislation to make federal disaster recovery programs for individuals more efficient, effective, and equitable.
He and his wife, Andrea, live in Lafayette, Colorado, with their two children.
